NOISE 死 (Der Tod)” (1980)

From ”天皇 (Tenno)” (LP. ALM rcds. LM-1191. 1980)

Japanese noise-drone-improv group, active in the late seventies and early eighties. The group began under the name Worst Noise and with an ever-rotating line-up. The group eventually stabilized under the name Noise as a duo of Tori Kudo on organ and Reiko Omura on vocals, guitar and trumpet. The two later married.

masculinity is so funny to me bc men deprive themselves of the best things in life in order to achieve it like ….fuzzy socks, fun fruity pink drinks, spa days, lifetime movies,  expressing positive feelings in a healthy way, being a warm genuine person

I had a dream that I went to a lou reed concert in a kind of loft space filled with green and purple lights. He played an extended version of “perfect day” with the choruses removed

A person who has not been completely alienated, who has remained sensitive and able to feel, who has not lost the sense of dignity, who is not yet “for sale”, who can still suffer over the suffering of others, who has not acquired fully the having mode of existence - briefly, a person who has remained a person and not become a thing - cannot help feeling lonely, powerless, isolated in present-day society. He cannot help doubting himself and his own convictions, if not his sanity. He cannot help suffering, even though he can experience moments of joy and clarity that are absent in the life of his “normal” contemporaries. Not rarely will he suffer from neurosis that results from the situation of a sane man living in an insane society, rather than that of the more conventional neurosis of a sick man trying to adapt himself to a sick society. In the process of going further in his analysis, i.e. of growing to greater independence and productivity, his neurotic symptoms will cure themselves. […] Paradoxically, the ability to be alone is the condition for the ability to love.

The bourgeoisie loves so-called “positive” types and novels with happy endings since they lull one into thinking that it is fine to simultaneously acquire capital and maintain one’s innocence, to be a beast and still be happy.

“Well! That certainly didn’t work out well,” they reflect. “Not only did capitalism make us all unhappy, it was, in fact, constantly going wrong.”
Excerpts from the upcoming English translation of Communism for Children, a fable of capitalist dystopia and communist revolution.

Koji Wakamatsu- Serial Rapist

What a bleak, terrible movie…

A questionable entry in the 2011 screening diary. There’s this theme in a lot of movies of showing some kind of secret, dark underside of society, but the point I’m aiming for here is slightly different: this is not some gross, perverted waste product of society, but society itself. If that makes any sense.
